The Foundations of Kindergarten

Central Lutheran School's Kindergarten Program seeks to provide age-appropriate experiences that fully develop a student's God-given potential in an atmosphere that promotes spiritual growth and a positive self-concept in accordance with Indiana State Standards.  The schedule features daily routines with structured large group group lessons.  Small group learning and free choice activities provide for the development of students' social interactions and promote cooperation.  Students learn standard based concepts and do skill-based activities using fun and creative themes.  While planned activities cover all the core curriculum areas, the students' faith life, pre-reading/reading levels, and a solid math foundation are most prominent.

Religion
The Voyages curriculum emphasizes Jesus' love for each student.  This focus incorporates God's love for us as shown in His plan for our salvation.  The Bible stories are enhanced through chapel worship, songs, puppets, books, and finger plays.

Reading
Our Scott-Foresman curriculum nurtures emergent literacy, phonics skills, and emergent writing through song, books, handwriting, and creative activities.

Mathematics
The Houghten Mifflin curriculum builds basic math skills in numbers, counting, addition, subtraction, fractions, money, time, patterns, measurement, estimating, graphing, geometry, and problem solving.  Hands on manipulative and learning games enhance these concepts.

Science
The Scott Foreman curriculum promotes the child's awareness of the physical, environmental, and life sciences.  Units of study include plants and animals, our Earth, matter, and what we use.

Social Studies
Thematic seasonal units enhance the child's awareness of the world around them.
